A child must be the age requested for camp upon the first day of camp.

Parents or guardians must sign a waiver for their child(ren) upon drop off on the first day of camp.

Little Explorers 1

SESSION FULL

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Do you want to catch frogs and play in mud? Would you like to be an explorer for the day and discover what lives here at ODC Nature Preserve? In this camp we will do all that and more! We will spend our time outside listening to stories, creating crafts and hiking. Please bring a water bottle and a light snack.

Participant Ages: 4-6 yrs old  (age by the start of camp)

Fee: $40 per child, $25 for Members

wildlife camp 1

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

This camp is for kids crazy about wildlife. They will study a variety of animals native to Michigan and the habitats where they live on the ODC Nature Preserve. Kids will get to catch animals, identify them, and learn about their lives. Live animals both caught in the wild and from the Center’s live animal collection will be used during camp including insects, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and birds.

Participant Ages: 7-10 yrs old  (age by the start of camp)

ODC Explorers

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Get ready for summertime fun! In this camp we will be kayaking, hiking, biking, exploring for wildlife and playing games. It’s everything you want to do outside and more! We will be visiting the ODC Nature Preserve and other locations. Parents/guardians are responsible for different drop-off/pick-up locations on each day. Items to bring daily: snack and lunch, water bottle, bug spray, sunscreen, and a backpack. A bike and helmet will be needed for one day.

Participant ages: 9-14 yrs old  (age by the start of camp)

Archery Camp 3

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

In this three day camp, campers will be instructed by a certified archery instructor to establish or reinforce good technique and form. Even if they have never shot before, this camp will help them learn the lifelong sport of archery. They will experience using a variety of tools from ancient atlatls to modern compound bows at the ODCMG’s archery range. All materials will be provided for the camp. Sorry, no bows from home may be used until inspected by our range master.

Participant age: 10-16 yrs old  (age by the start of camp)

Kayak Camp

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

This three day Kayak Camp is designed for the young beginner paddler. The camp begins with an introduction to kayaking on a pond. Campers paddle these craft solo and develop skills that emphasize independence and self-reliance through a mix of instruction, demonstrations, and games. Paddle strokes and techniques, rescue skills, and boating safety will be included.

For days two and three, campers will need to be dropped off at an area park to kayak on the Macatawa River, Rabbit River or Kalamazoo River. Details will be shared on the first day of camp. All materials are provided though campers are welcome to bring their own paddle and approved personal flotation device. A personal water bottle, sunscreen and light snack are recommended.

Outdoor Skills

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Hone your outdoor skills at the ODC Nature Preserve and at other Holland area parks. While on their daytime hikes, campers will learn to read a map, orient with a compass, practice wilderness survival skills, build a fire and more. For days two and three, campers will need to be dropped off at an area park. Details will be shared on the first day of camp. All materials will be included for this camp. No pocket knives, weapons or matches may be brought by participants.

Participant Ages: 9-14 yrs old  (age by the start of camp)

This camp is for participants who have attended a previous archery camp at the ODCMG or been through lessons with one of our staff. The camp is designed to build on the skills learned in the Introduction to Archery Camp and improve the archer’s shooting proficiency at greater distances and improve distance judgement. All materials will be provided for the camp. Sorry, no bows from home may be used until inspected by our range master.

Does your camper love things others would consider gross or to get super dirty? If so, this camp is for you! Campers will explore some of the strange, gruesome, ‘yucky’ things animals do to survive. Throughout the week campers will sludge through the mud, dissect an owl pellet and play a variety of games that teach them about why animals do the icky things they do. Things to bring daily are a water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray.

Participant age is 7-9 years of age (age by the start of camp)

Kayak Camp

Campers who have already been through an ODCMG kayaking camp or who have experience paddling will enjoy this next level of kayaking! The three day camp will have the group visiting three different area kayaking sites including Macatawa and surrounding watersheds. Campers will solo paddle their boat all three days for 4-5 hours each day. All materials are provided though campers are welcome to bring their own paddle and approved personal flotation device. A personal water bottle, sunscreen, light snack and bag lunch are recommended.
