TITLE:  Facilities & Construction Specialist

REPORTS TO:  VP of Operations

STATUS:  Full-time / Exempt

START DATE: Immediate


The ODC Network is a nonprofit organization focused on outdoor education and conservation throughout West Michigan. The Facilities & Construction Specialist is an at-will, full-time employee responsible for supporting the mission of the ODC Network (ODCN) through the execution of construction and maintenance projects and day to day property management. They will work closely with the VP of Operations and other members of the Management Team on the planning and execution of capital projects and the upkeep of facilities. In addition, they may assist in the management of other full or part-time Operations staff and volunteers.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with various construction equipment including: excavating equipment, lawn maintenance equipment, snow removal equipment, chainsaws, and construction tools
  • Project management and/or supervision experience
  • Detailed organization skills, ability to multitask, adapt to change and to develop plans and timelines and follow through to completion
  • Demonstrate excellence in a variety of skilled trades
  • Create spontaneous solutions to complex building challenges
  • Strong ability to work both collaboratively and independently, including strong interpersonal skills in a team setting

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Lead construction and improvement projects for boardwalks, trails, buildings, and facilities
  • Assist with the development and construction of nature play and learn spaces
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and on budget to the highest standards of quality
  • Facilitate organizational relationships with Operations department clients and vendors
  • Actively utilize the ODC project management system
  • Assist with bidding and design of construction and maintenance related projects
  • Assist in the maintenance of equipment used to operate and maintain ODC properties
  • Assist with seasonal snow removal
  • Assist with maintaining clean, safe and organized facilities, equipment and vehicles for ODC\ staff and visitors
  • Assist with property maintenance including lawn care, landscaping, and trail maintenance
  • Assist with department budget preparation, goal setting and evaluation
  • Assist with ODCN events as needed
  • Maintain a current working knowledge and professional working relationships in all aspects of job requirements
  • Help promote the mission and vision of ODCN
  • Assist and coordinate with other staff as required, including meeting participation
  • All other duties as assigned by the CEO or executive management team



  • High school diploma with experience in buildings, grounds and equipment maintenance and
  • Experience in construction, excavation, and/or landscaping preferred


Physical Demands:

  • Requires the ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to regularly lift up to 75 pounds and walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time.


Equipment Operated: 

  • Must be able to operate a tractor, lawn mower, utility vehicles and other construction equipment.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, Google, and the operation of general office equipment.
