Preschool Lead Teacher

Overview: The Outdoor Discovery Schools are nature-based preschools operated by
the ODC Network. Little Hawks Discovery Preschool is located at the Outdoor
Discovery Center and Seedlings Discovery Preschool is located at Pillar Church, both in
Holland, Michigan. The ODC Network is a nonprofit organization focused on education
and conservation throughout West Michigan. The ODC Network’s Discovery Preschools
provide preschool opportunities for children aged 3-5, building academic skills within a
unique natural environment with an emphasis on nature based inquiry and outdoor
exploration.

Primary Responsibilities: Program Planning and Development Work with instructional
team to design daily nature-based, developmentally appropriate preschool
lessons/units of study guided by mission, principles, Creative Curriculum and practices
for quality early childhood programs. Design and implement an outdoor learning
environment where open-ended play is the focus. Identify curriculum resources.
Design and set up classroom space based on guidelines for program evaluation
through Great Start to Quality and Great Start Readiness Program’s Program Quality
Assessment (PQA). Collect and analyze assessment data (Teaching Strategies GOLD,
PELI, etc.) to measure/facilitate student growth and improve program quality. Work
actively with ODC Network staff to ensure children have a strong connection to nature.

Education/Experience: Teaching certificate with early childhood emphasis and ZS
endorsement. Two or more years of experience in working with young children,
preferably experience at a Nature-based Preschool or two or more years of
experience working with preschool children in a licensed preschool setting
desired. Background/experience in nature-based instruction, outdoor education or
similar field.
