Holland BPW Prairie Restoration

Our conservation services began a five acre prairie restoration in 2022 at the Holland BPW Water Treatment Plant.

The goals of the project were to eliminate lawn mowing, irrigation, and to create biodiverse pollinator habitat.

The site grew from traditional turfgrass lawn to a prairie with several short-lived wildflowers in bloom this August (coreopsis, black-eyed susan, indian blanket, cosmos).

These species of wildflower help add a splash of color during the first 1-2 growing seasons while native perennials focus primarily on root development. These species will phase out moving forward as native perennials fill in.
