Travis Williams
Chief Executive Officer, ODC Network
Travis Williams is a recognized leader in conservation, education, and outdoor access and the architect behind one of the most innovative nonprofit models in the region.
As CEO of ODC Network, Travis has spent more than 25 years building and growing a multifaceted organization that integrates environmental restoration, pioneering nature-based education, and outdoor access into a unified strategy. What began as a single site in Holland, Michigan has grown under his leadership into a 260-person organization spanning 14 divisions, serving more than 200,000 people annually and connecting over 1.5 million individuals to nature.
Under his leadership, ODC Network has become a nationally relevant example of how cross-sector partnerships can be leveraged to build a nature-rich community.
At the core of Travis’s leadership is a clear and compelling idea that thriving ecosystems and thriving communities are inseparable. He has translated that belief into an approach that demonstrates how investing in nature improves academic outcomes, supports mental and physical health, and builds more connected, resilient communities.
A systems thinker and coalition builder, Travis is known for bringing unlikely partners together to drive meaningful, measurable change. He is the founding leader of Project Clarity, a landmark effort to restore Lake Macatawa and its watershed, uniting farmers, municipalities, businesses, philanthropists, and residents around shared environmental goals. He has also led the conservation of more than 1,000 acres of natural land while expanding outdoor access for the community.
In education, Travis is helping reimagine how and where learning happens. Through ODC’s Education Network, he has built partnerships with more than 35 schools across West Michigan, advancing a model that integrates outdoor experiences into daily learning and delivers measurable gains in student engagement, attendance, and academic performance. He has also pioneered nature-based play-and-learn environments and led the development of five nature-based early childhood campuses that are setting a new standard for how children learn and grow.
His early career as a naturalist, high school biology teacher, animal care manager, and aquatic toxicology researcher shaped a deep, lived understanding of how time in nature impacts people. That insight continues to inform his leadership today.
Beyond his regional impact, Travis is the founder of ODC Network’s Explorer Network, a global conservation travel program. A naturalist and wildlife photographer, he leads immersive expeditions that connect people more deeply to the natural world.
What sets Travis apart is not only what he has built, but how he leads. He has cultivated a high-performing, mission-driven culture that attracts top talent and sustains growth across multiple revenue-generating business lines, an uncommon achievement in the nonprofit sector. He is frequently sought after to speak on leadership, organizational strategy, and how to scale impact-driven organizations without compromising mission.
His contributions have been recognized through numerous honors, including the National Association for Interpretation Master Interpretive Manager, Michigan Science Teachers Association Informal Educator of the Year, and the Michigan West Coast Chamber Icon Award.
Travis is an avid traveler, angler, and wildlife photographer. He lives in Hamilton, Michigan with his wife, Stephanie, and their three children, and remains deeply connected to the natural world both professionally and personally.
